Viljo (Maple Bay Based On True Story), who only less than two weeks ago moved to his new lovely home, died today totally unexpectedly when being awaken after anesthesia for routine operation. This was really sad, especially when Viljo was just about to start his nice new life with his horse and cat buddies. Thank you Mervi for taking such good care of Viljo.

Viljo (Maple Bay Based On True Story), joka vasta vajaa kaksi viikkoa sitten muutti uuteen ihanaan kotiinsa, kuoli tänään täysin yllättäen rutiinileikkauksen jälkeen nukutuksesta herätettäessä. Todella ikävää, etenkin kun Viljolla oli juuri alkamassa uusi kiva elämä heppa- ja kissakaverien kanssa. Kiitokset Mervi Viljon hyvästä hoidosta ja huolenpidosta.

Heathers Soulmate Knocks Twice "Niilo" 2/15/2005 -11/6/2013
Niilo left to the Rainbow Bridge last night. He passed away quietly in his sleep. I'm happy that I got to share my life with Niilo, he was truly one of a kind, my laughing Canadian charmer. Thank you to Heather & Peter!

ABB championship show UK
Connie (Maple Bay True Superstar at Cilwgri) sai toisen serttinsä ja oli ROP ja Best In Show Englannissa ABB:n (Association of Bloodhound Breeders) erikoisnäyttelyssä. Tuomarina oli Suzanne Emrys-Jones (kennel Marksbury). Lisäksi Connie sai palkinnon parhaista liikkeistä sekä parhaan black&tan värisen koiran palkinnon. Enää yksi sertti ja Conniesta tulee Englannin valio! Suuret onnittelut Eileenille ja Robinille! :)

Heinolan kaikkien rotujen näyttely // Heinola all breed show 18.8.2013
Shmi (Maple Bay Truth Or Dare) kävi eilen Heinolan kaikkien rotujen näyttelyssä ja sai ensimmäisen sertinsä ollen samalla myös ROP kera hienon arvostelun. Tuomarina oli Nenad Davidovic, Serbia. Ryhmässä Shmi otti vielä sijoituksen RYP-4 (tuomari Esko Nummijärvi). Shmi on jo kolmas ryhmäsijoittuja samasta pentueesta.

In the group Shmi took a placement as well, Group 4th (judged by Mr. Esko Nummijärvi, Finland). Shmi is already the third one from the same litter to have a group placement.

Uusi pentu // New puppy
Viime lauantaina haimme kotiin uuden tulokkaan, beagletyttö Duurin (Skilos mas Premier Jour). Duuri tuli meille sijoitukseen kasvattajalta Anne Vitikaiselta. Duuri on hurmannut paitsi meidät kaksijalkaiset mutta myös vihilauman ja se kirmaa ja leikkii jo tottuneesti isompien mukana.
Last Saturday we brought home our new addition to the family, a beagle girl Duuri (Skilos mas Premier Jour). Duuri is co-owned by her breeder Anne Vitikainen. Duuri has charmed not only us two-legged ones but also the bloodhound pack and is already running and playing with the big dogs.

Viikonlopun tuloksia // Results from the weekend
Viime viikonloppu oli tapahtumarikas, hyvässä ja pahassa. Saksasta kesälomareissulla Suomessa ollut Finja kävi Pori KV:ssa saamassa Suomen sertin, cacibin ja oli ROP. Tuomarina Leila Kärkäs. Olipa kotiin viemisiä pokaaleissa ja ruusukkeissa omistajilla.
Englannissa siskonsa Connie sai myös ensimmäisen serttinsä ollen VSP. Tuomarina Susan Harrison.
Itse olimme viikonlopun vihileirillä Fredin, Viljon ja Railin kanssa. Leila ja Niilo olivat kotona ystävän hoidossa ja ikävä yllätys osui kohdalle sunnuntai-iltapäivänä kun Niilolle tuli vatsalaukunkiertymä. Onneksi ehdittiin ajoissa päivystykseen jossa Niilo leikattiin, maha kiinnitettiin ja nyt Niilo voi taas hyvin. Ensimmäinen kerta kun kiertymä osuu omiin koiriini, toivottavasti myös viimeinen, sen verran säikäytti.
Last weekend was full of events, good and bad. Finja from Germany, who was on summer holiday in Finland visited Pori Int show and she got a CC, a Cacib and BOB. Judge Mrs. Leila Kärkäs. Her owners had a few trophies and rosettes to bring home.
In UK her sister Connie took also her very first CC (and was BOS) under judge Mrs. Susan Harrison.
We were at the bloodhound camp for the weekend with Fredi, Viljo and Raili. Leila and Niilo stayed at home and were taken care by a good friend. We got an unpleasant surprise on Sunday afternoon when Niilo bloated. Luckily he was taken in to the emergency clinic in time and was operated and gastropexied. Now Niilo is doing fine again. This was the first time ever my dog bloats, and hopefully the last one too, it was pretty scary.

Torspo RYP-1 Hyvinkään kaikkien rotujen näyttelyssä 13.7.2013 // Torspo Group 1st Hyvinkää all-breed show 13.7.2013
Suomen muotovalion lisäksi Torsposta tuli nyt myös Liettuan muotovalio.
"Torspo" Maple Bay True Keeper Brillo finished with grand style at the Hyvinkää all breed show.
He took BOB with a CC and thus became a Finnish Champion. Finally he also took Group 1st! Judge was Mrs. Leni Finne (breed & group). At the BIS ring no placement.
In addition to the Finnish title, Torspo is now also a Lithuanian Champion.

Näyttely- ja koetuloksia // Show and trial results
Sunnuntaina 9.6. oltiin Ullan kanssa Oriveden kaikkien rotujen näyttelyssä. Ulla oli ROP, sai viimeisen sertinsä ja tuli muotovalioksi ja lopuksi se oli vielä RYP-4. Torspo sai tuomarilta ERI:n muttei SA:ta, joten valioituminen jäi tulevaisuuteen. Tuomarina Riitta Lahtovaara (rotu&ryhmä).
Ulla muutti kesäkuun alussa Orivedelle, ja veljensä Viljo muutti takaisin kotiin. Kaikki osapuolet ovat hyvin tyytyväisiä ratkaisuun.
Lauantaina 15.6. oli vihikoirien jälkikoe Kurussa, tuomarina Ismo Koiranen. Torspo sai viimeisen AVO-luokan tuloksensa ja nousi täten VOI-luokkaan, ja samalla se oli tuttuun tapaan taas kokeen kokonaisvoittaja. Myös Raili sai ensimmäisen AVO1-tuloksensa ja teki upean maalihenkilön tunnistuksen jäljen lopussa.
On Sunday June 9th Ulla was shown at the Orivesi all breed show. She took BOB and got her last CC to finish her championship. At the group finals she took Group 4. Torspo got an "excellent" but no "CQ", so he did not finish his title yet. Judge was Mrs. Riitta Lahtovaara, Finland (breed&group).
On Saturday June 15th we had a mantrailing trial in Kuru, judged by Mr. Ismo Koiranen. Torspo got his last Open class result and thus moves on to the Winners class, and as usually, he was also the grand trial winner. Also Raili got her first Open 1 result and she did a beautiful i.d. of the trail runner at the lineup.

Lauantaina oltiin Ullan ja Leilan kanssa Haminan KV-näyttelyssä. Ulla oli ROP kera sertin ja cacibin ja lopuksi vielä RYP-3. Leila PN2 ja vara-cacib. Tuomarina Gunnar Nyman, Tanska (rotu & ryhmä).
Sunnuntaina oltiin Koski TL:ssä vihikoirien jälkikokeessa Railin ja Leilan kanssa, molemmat avoimessa luokassa. Railin ensimmäinen kerta avoimessa luokassa ei sujunut tarpeeksi ripeästi, tuloksena AVO0. Mutta Leila sai kolmannen AVO1-tuloksensa ja siirtyy täten kilpailemaan voittajaluokkaan. Torspo (Maple Bay True Keeper Brillo) sai jo toisen AVO1-tuloksensa ja oli taas kokeen kokonaisvoittaja. Torspo on käynyt jälkikokeessa kolme kertaa, ollen joka kerta kokeen kokonaisvoittaja. Tuomarina oli tänään Seija Heinola.

Raili's first performance in the Open class was not fast enough, thus the result Open 0. But Leila got her third Open 1 result and thus she moves on to the Winners class. Torspo (Maple Bay True Keeper Brillo) got already his 2nd Open 1 result and he was again the Grand trial winner. Torspo has participated in three mantrailing trials and he has always been the Grand trial winner. Our judge today was Seija Heinola.

Tampere Int show 4.5.2013
Leila oli ROP ja Ulla PN2 (+sert ja varacacib) Tampereen KV-näyttelyssä lauantaina. Tuomarina oli Birgitte Gothen, Tanska. Leila palkittiin myös ansiokkaasta Kaverikoiratoiminnasta Kennelliiton mitalilla ja kunniakirjalla.
Leila took BOB and Ulla was Best Bitch 2 with a CC and res-cacib at the Tampere Int show on Saturday. Our judge was Mrs. Birgitte Gothen, Denmark. Leila was also awarded a medal and a diploma by the Finnish KC for meritorious service as a canine companion dog for elderly/handicapped people.

Lahti Int show 27.4.2013
Leila oli Lahti KV:ssä VSP. Torspo oli PU2 kera sertin. Tuomarina Manola Poggesi, Italia. Matkalla poikettiin Shmin luona pienimuotoisen sukukokouksen merkeissä.
Leila took BOS at the Lahti Int show. Torspo was Best male 2 with a CC. Judge Mrs.Manola Poggesi, Italy. On our way home we visited Shmi and had a small family reunion.

Silmätarkastus & Vuoden Näyttelykoira 2012 // Eye check & Show dog of the Year 2012
Raili & Ulla kävivät virallisessa silmätarkastuksessa tänään. Normaalin silmäpeilauksen lisäksi tehtiin myös gonioskopiatutkimus. Railin silmät olivat täysin terveet & normaalit, Ullalla löytyi lievä goniodysplasiamuutos, eli silmän rakennemuutos, joka saattaa lisätä glaukoomariskiä.
Leila voitti Tampereen Seudun Koirakerhon Vuoden Näyttelykoirakilpailun 2012. Palkinto jaetaan 21.3. Olipahan aikamoinen yllätys!
Raili & Ulla were checked for their eyes (official eye examination) today. In addition to the normal eye examination, also gonioscopy was performed for both. Raili's eyes were perfectly healthy and normal, Ulla was found to have a slight goniodysplastic change, which is a structural abnormality of the eye that can lead to an increased risk for glaucoma.
Leila won the Show Dog of the Year 2012 prize of the Tampere area dog club (Tampereen Seudun Koirakerho ry.). The prize will be distributed on March 21st. What a great surprise that was!

Edustamassa TSE ry:tä Hippo-hiihdoissa 17.2.2013 // Representing TSE ry. at the kids' Hippo-ski competition

17.2. oltiin Leilan kanssa edustamassa Tampereen Seudun Etsintäkoiria (TSE ry.) Viljakkalassa lasten Hippo-hiihdoissa. Paikalla oli neljä koirakkoa, joista hakukoirat järjestivät yleisölle pelastusnäytöksen. Leila oli paikalla lähinnä rapsuteltavana, josta se suuresti nautti.
On 17.2. Leila & me were representing the Tampere SAR group (TSE ry.) in Viljakkala at the kids’ skiing competition. We had four dog teams there, the air scenting dogs showed their skills in front of the audience. Leila was there mostly for being petted, which she greatly enjoyed.
